Sandy donations stuck in East Greenbush after fuel shortage

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. – After collecting almost an entire tractor trailer's worth of donated food, cleaning supplies and clothes – the members of the East Greenbush Fire Dept. were eager to get hit the road and deliver the goods to Staten Island – but their plan hit the brakes with a shortage of gas.

At first the donation drive seemed like a huge success, even a local business, Albany Transit Incorporated, donated one of their tractor-trailers.

The fuel shortage caused by Sandy downstate means there might not be enough gas for the truck to return.

But organizers say during the past couple of days restrictions had eased up enough for them to make the trip down this Saturday morning.
