Sen. Neil Breslin clear winner in Primary race

ALBANY, N.Y. – In the race for the State's 44th Senate District, Incumbent Senator Neil Breslin quickly sailed to another victory, securing his ninth term in the Senate.

His opponent Shawn Morse took 29% of the votes, 6,341 total, with Breslin securing 71% of the votes, 15,320 total, during Thursday night's primary election.

In a statement released by Breslin Friday morning, he says: “I am honored to have the support of the voters in the 44th Senate District as I continue to focus on improving the educational system for all New York's children, helping working families, protecting women's hard-won rights and making health care more affordable. With the primary race over, I commend Mr. Morse for his spirited campaign.”

Morse, the Cohoes firefighter and chairman of the Albany County Legislature, conceded Thursday night saying, “While I'm disappointed in tonight's results, I knew from the beginning that going up against a long-term incumbent with deep machine support would be a challenge, but it was always a challenge worth taking on. I'm proud of the campaign that we ran for State Senate.”

There is no Republican opponent in the General Election race for the 44th District.
