NORTH ADAMS — Thousands lined Route 2 in North Adams Wednesday afternoon to welcome home a fallen soldier. Army PFC Mike DeMarsico, 20, was killed by an IED while serving in Afghanistan.
“He did what he wanted to do. He did it with every bit of pride and honor for his country,” Barbara Cahoon, DMarsico's great-grandmother said.
A motorcade with the herse carrying Army PFC Mike DeMarsico made its way through the city to the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home.
DeMarsico's family said he enlisted shortly after graduating from Drury High School, pursuing a lifelong dream of serving his country. His family said it's still grieving.
“Just so hard now knowing all this… Walking around North Adams looking at everything being a memory,” Michael Cahoon, DeMarsico's cousin said.
Calling hours for DeMarsico will be held Friday and his funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
