Scholarships handed out to students during College Day at the Track

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – College students raced to the Saratoga Race Course Friday to sign up for a chance to win a $1,000
scholarship.
Friday was “College Day” at Saratoga and students were able to enter the track for free with a valid
college ID. The first 1,000 students through the gate also received a free t-shirt.
A $1,000 scholarship was awarded to one lucky student at the end of every race. Students who signed up for the scholarship drawing could also win prizes like iPods or gift cards to local restaurants.
The scholarship money awarded could
be used for tuition, books, housing or many other costs that seem to pile up in
college.
But for John Rhodes, a student at the University at Albany, and his family this scholarship money can help
give them a fresh start.
“I'm about to quit work to go back to
school full time at the NanoCollege at Albany,” Rhodes said. “I spent ten years in the Navy and I'm using my GI bill to go back to school.”
