WWII veterans reunite with other members of the 42nd Infantry “Rainbow” Division

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.–A unique reunion in Saratoga Springs brought together combat veterans from World War II to Afghanistan with one thing in common.

87-year-old Pete Pettus walks into the NYS Military Museum, the door held for him by Major Ben Tupper. Both men are apart of the 42nd Infantry Division, known as the Rainbow Division.

Tupper says the comradery between him and Pettus is something very special.

Tupper is a World War II veteran and is still active duty with the NY National Guard. They met in 2004 at a reunion like the one Thursday night in Saratoga Springs, where veterans who served under the same battle flag reunite.

Both Tupper and Pettus' conversation mirrored many that took place throughout the reunion, sharing not just stories, but admiration for one another.

Major Tupper says the one thing that ties everyone in the room together, is not just their service, but the division they did it under.
