WHITEHALL, N.Y. – A Whitehall woman has been arrested after police say her two young children were found wandering around a park unattended, only wearing diapers. This, one month after the father of the children was arrested in a similar incident.
Whitehall Police say 22-year-old Jessica Hawkins, of Williams Street, has been charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Her two children, ages 2 and 4-years-old, were seen running around Riverside Park on Main Street on Wednesday. Upon arrival of the officers, the mother of the children had arrived on scene and resumed care of them.
According to police, a witness observed the children unattended for about 15 minutes in the park.
Police tell NEWS10 that last month, the mother's boyfriend and father of the children, Timothy Crawford, was arrested for a similar incident.
On June 20th, police arrested Crawford, 29, when the 2-year-old child was allegedly seen running across the street to a playground unattended and only wearing a diaper.
Crawford was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Both matters were turned over to Child Protective Services for investigation.
