Arrests made in alleged Amsterdam drug sales

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – After a six month investigation, police executed search warrants at two locations in the city of Amsterdam early Friday morning for alleged drug sales that had been occurring.

The Amsterdam Police Department, New York State Police, as well as the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department all assisted in the execution of the search warrants at 296 East Main Street and 189 Church Street, both in Amsterdam, in which various drug paraphernalia was seized. Police say four arrest warrants were executed as well.

Police say the suspect remains at large for the search warrant executed on East Main Street, as the resident was not home at the time.

41-year-old Jose Ayala, of 189 Church Street, was arrested during that search warrant and charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd.

Arrest warrants were issued and taken into custody Friday morning were: 26-year-old Gabriel Almonte, of 223 Division Street in Amsterdam; 30-year-old Angel Quinones, of 18 Swan Street in Amsterdam; 30-year-old Lisandro Garcia, who is currently incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail on unrelated charges; and 37-year-old James Valentin, of 8 Swan Street in Amsterdam. All four suspects are charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd, a class B felony.

These names will also be forwarded to social services, for investigation into possible welfare fraud.

Police say the investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.

All suspects have been remanded to the Montgomery County Jail without bail.
