GLENVILLE, NY – Glenville police arrested a suspect following a spree of larcenies in the area.
The larcenies began on March 24 and ended on Saturday in a foot pursuit of the suspect. Police arrested and charged 45-year-old Eugene Wachtel, of Schenectady, with one count of Grand Larceny and four counts of Petit Larceny.
Police say on March 24 Wachtel allegedly stole $600 worth of shrimp from Hannaford. Four days later on March 28, Wachtel allegedly stole over $300 in power tools from Wal Mart. Then on March 30, Wachtel went back to Hannaford and stole approximately $300 worth in seafood and meat. On April 10, he went to Hannaford again and stole $500 worth of meat.
Wachtel was arrested on Saturday after police say he stole a $400 patio set from Wal Mart.
Wachtel fled from officers but was apprehended without incident. Police identified him through video surveillance and witnesses. Police say Wachtel has an extensive criminal history and that he stole all the items to feed a cocaine habit.
Wachtel was arraigned in Glenville Town Court and sent to the Schenectady County Jail without bail. He is due back in court at a later date.
