ALBANY, N.Y. – An Albany teen was released on bail Friday morning, after being charged with manslaughter in an alleged fatal hit-and-run crash last Saturday.
State Supreme Court Justice Dan Lamont set bail at $75,000 for 19-year-old Ian Eckardt-Rigberg, which was posted Friday morning and he was able to go home.
When Eckardt-Rigberg was arraigned on Wednesday, he was initially remanded Albany County Jail without bail.
In Friday's bail hearing, prosecutors asked the judge to set bail at $150,000 saying that he fled the scene after striking the victim and could be a flight-risk now.
Eckhardt-Rigberg has been charged with Manslaughter 2nd-degree and a
felony charge of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Auto Accident
Resulting in Death in connection with the incident that killed 53-year
old Albany resident Rozell Whitehead at the corner of Henry Johnson Boulevard and Third Street on Saturday night. He turned himself into police on Tuesday.
He has pled not guilty and is due back in court on Monday.
