ALBANY, N.Y. – Police continue to investigate an officer involved shooting in Albany that sent one man to the hospital. Police said the shooting occurred in the parking lot behind 6 Brevator Street, off of Western Avenue. Authorities have identified the man involved as 22- year old Robert Carter.
Police said Carter's father called 911 shortly after noon on Friday to report his son who he called “emotionally disturbed.”
Miller said an officer arrived on the scene and found the man behind a building. Sources close to the investigation said Carter had a BB or pellet gun that he aimed at police. When that happened, we're told the officer shot the man in the upper torso.
Police confirmed Carter is out of surgery and in stable condition.
This is the second police-involved shooting for the Albany Police Department in the past three months.
As a standard practice with any police related shooting an internal investigation is being conducted by the Office of Professional Standards.
