PITTSTOWN, N.Y. – A Rensselaer County man charged with felony counts of possession of child porn yelled expletives at NEWS10 while he walked into Pittstown town court Wednesday night.

John Kelly faces two felony charges, promoting sexual performance of a child and possession of child porn, after officials say 100 hard drives containing explicit images were found inside his mobile home on Jan 20th.

The FBI worked in collaboration with the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office to catch Kelly. Detective Sergeant Shane Holcomb says Kelly was downloading child porn when the teams went in to arrest him.

Holcomb says the images on the confiscated hard drives include naked photos, sexually explicit poses, and child rape videos. Police confiscated a computer and a legal AK47.

Kelly did not want to comment when approached by NEWS10 at his home in Pittstown.

“I'd like you to get off my property now,” Kelly said.

One of Kelly's neighbors Helen Paul says she's concerned about him living in a place where there are so many children.

“It's sick. I've got a granddaughter, they've got young children next door too,” Paul said.

The Assistant District Attorney prosecuting the case Art Kelly says John Kelly can only enter a plea of “not guilty” at the town court because the judge only has the power to rule on misdemeanors. The ADA says Kelly's case will be moved to a higher court.

“The U.S. Attorney's Office is considering prosecuting this case,” the ADA said.

Kelly was arrested for the charges on January 20th, but made bail at $20,000.
