Occupy Albany back in Academy Park

ALBANY, NY – Occupy Albany returned to
Academy Park for the first time on a large scale Saturday, holding a rally as
they continue to fight for economic justice. More than a hundred protesters
assembled at the city owned property and then marched down Washington Avenue, the group was joined by MoveOn.org.

Back on December 22, the city evicted Occupy
Albany's encampment from that park, after receiving a temporary restraining
. Protesters clashed with police, leading one mounted officer to use pepper
on the crowd. Police Chief Steven Krokoff has defended that officer's
actions, saying he had no choice. Protesters deny
that and said excessive force was used.
Occupiers said the focus of the Saturday event was
to show unity and determination as they continue their work.
