ALBANY, N.Y. – News10 has exclusively obtained police documents that show registered sex offender, Adam Croote, admitting to sexually assaulting and attempting to kill a 10-year-old girl he was babysitting after school.

Croote, 23, of New Scotland, was babysitting the girl in the Town of Berne on Monday when police say he sexually assaulted her and tried to strangle her.

In a statement obtained by police, Croote says he and the young girl played Monopoly and an X-Box game for awhile and she left the room to get a snack. At this point Croote says “I took off my pants and boxers. She came back and saw me naked from the waist down and looked at my but didn't say anything.”

Croote went on to describe the physical attack on the girl, saying “I tried to make her stop by choking her. I looked down and saw her face, I let go and left.”

According to Albany County Undersheriff Craig Apple, the girl's parents were in a pinch for someone to look after her that day after school. It is unclear if they knew of Croote's sexual criminal past.

The girl's father kept calling the house with no answer. When he got in touch with his daughter, the girl told her father that she was bleeding and had been attacked by Croote. The mother called 911 and the child was treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital and released in the early morning hours on Tuesday. Police say Croote came close to snapping the young girl's neck.

Croote was tracked down and arrested by police along Route 32 in New Scotland shortly after.

Croote is an unemployed registered sex offender from Massachusetts. He is charged with Attempted Murder 2nd-degree, Rape 1st-degree, Criminal Sexual Act 1st-degree, Sexual Abuse 1st-degree, Strangulation 2nd-degree, Aggravated Sexual Abuse 1st-degree, Forcible Touching and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. He was arraigned in the Town of Berne Justice Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
