TROY, N.Y.– Troy Police investigated an animal abuse case on Saturday after two puppies froze to death on the back porch of a 9th Street apartment.
According to police, 22-year-old Lashema Greene woke up at 4AM to let two puppies outside. She then feel back to sleep before letting them in and by the time she went to check on them at 8:30AM, she found them dead.
“The resident had every intention to bring the dogs in a short time later but tell us she fell asleep and woke up approximately four and a half hours later,” Captain John Cooney of the Troy Police Department.
Police said Greene was watching the dogs for a family member. After she got done telling them about the death of the two dogs, they called animal control.
“The dogs appeared to emaciated and we did some interviews and determined that the defendant whose been arrested isn't the owner and responsible for the care and wellbeing of the dogs,” said Cooney.
Greene has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.
