Bethlehem police say an expired registration sticker led them to a major drug bust on Tuesday. In fact, Bethlehem Police Chief Lou Corsi says it's one of the biggest his department has ever handled.
Officers pulled over 48-year-old Eric Burkart on Delaware Avenue in the town.
Chief Corsi says Burkhart was already wanted for endangering the welfare of a child in Bethlehem.
When police searched his car, that's when Corsi says they found 2,500 packets, or decks, of heroin with a street value of around $50,000 dollars.
Corsi says the drugs came from downstate.
“It's not every day you find 2,500 decks of heroin, so it's a substantial arrest […] I'm sure it's going to impact distribution in the short term, and like I said, I'm just really proud of everybody who worked on this,” Corsi said.
Burkart is being held at the Albany County Jail without bail on felony drug charges.
