Challenge to NY’s Recognition of Gay Marriage Thrown Out

A New York judge has thrown out the first legal challenge to Governor Paterson's move to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

The judge ruled that the policy is a permissible step toward equality for gays.

Thousands of New Yorkers are expected to take advantage of a new Massachusetts law letting them get married there.

California is the only other state legalizing gay marriage.
