A local family's dream comes true after their home is chosen for an extreme makeover!
ABC's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” becomes “Extreme Makeover: Colonie Edition!” Crews are in the Capital Region to give a single mom with a crumbling foundation a new house!
Extreme Makeover invaded the home of Debbie Oatman-Gaitan Thursday morning. A local home building company, plus hundreds of volunteers plan to turn her home from a sinking house to a palace, fit for Debbie and her four sons.
While the home does not look bad, those in the know say looks can be deceiving. Debbie is a single mother, who has one biological child and three adopted – two of whom have HIV. The deteriorating conditions make their home a health hazard. So, ABC and its makeover stars literally “rolled” into town to set things straight!
The popularity of the Extreme Makeover show means the tiny street the Oatman's live on in Colonie is drawing a lot of attention. It is for that reason, that ABC has asked us not to disclose their address online – but we can tell you their home is located right off Consaul Road.
It is causing some big headaches for drivers. Heavy equipment is being rolled in to help with the bulldozing of the house. Because equipment will be taking up so much space, the actual street off Consaul Road will be shut down for the next week. There is also no parking in the area.
With all of that said, we will bring you extensive coverage of Extreme Makeover's time here in Colonie! NEWS10's Latricia Thomas will have reports every day on the progress of the home.
And we will be there when the Oatman's see their home next week. Make sure to mark your calendars for May 20th – that is when you will see the two-hour season finale from Colonie!
