It is a record New York might not be so proud of setting – record debt.
An independent watchdog group says the state's debt will hit 49.7 billion dollars this year. That is enough to make it one of three states, including Massachusetts and New Jersey, listed as in the danger zone, because the state will not be able to pay it back.
What does it mean for you? The state debt averages 3,515 dollars per person.
It is even worse in Massachusetts, where the debt averages almost five-grand per person.
